Sifnos

Sifnos is the fourth Cycladic island from Piraeus. In ancient times it was famous for its riches and in particular its gold and silver mines some of which travelers can still visit.

Today Sifnos is loved for its gastronomic delights, its picturesque white washed villages scattered throughout its varied landscape, its lovely beaches and the general aura of modest elegance that surrounds it.

It is also considered the centre of pottery in the Cyclades a tradition which it still maintains with many pottery workshops where you can purchase differing types of ceramics.

Most of the entertainment is centered around the neighboring towns of Apollonia , its capital with its vivid nightlife and Artemonas.

Nearby the historic medieval settlement of Kastro built on a rock with amazing views of the sea is a must to visit.

However, Sifnos is best known for its excellent cuisine  following the footsteps of  Nicholas Tselementes, a local chef who wrote the first Greek book of recipes in 1910.
